ACVVS- Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme

What is Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)?

The Community Visitors Scheme is also referred to as "ACVVS" and is a national program funded by the Australian Government.

The ACVVS program aims to enrich residents' quality of life in aged care facilities who are socially isolated or lonely and would benefit from a friendly visitor.

The ACVVS program also helps establish links between people living in the local community and aged care facilities.

Toukley Neighbourhood Centre auspices the ACVVS program in our local area.

Our volunteers are often referred to as "volunteer angels" or "friends for older people" who enrich the lives of the residents they visit.

What Do Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Do?

As an Aged Care Volunteer visitor, you are required to commit to visiting your resident friend preferably weekly or at least once a fortnight. Visits should be spent doing something you both enjoy: chatting and reminiscing, listening to music, playing cards or board games, or reading together.

Sharing your time and interests with the residents will help them feel better about themselves and enjoy their life more.

If you would like to know more about the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme or would like to become a visitor, please get in touch with the Centre.
