What is Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)?
The Community Visitors Scheme also referred to as “CVS.” It is a national program funded by the Australian Government.
The CVS program aims to enrich the quality of life of residents in aged care facilities who are socially isolated or lonely, and would benefit from a friendly visitor.
The CVS program also helps establish links between people living in the local community and aged care facilities.
Our Centre auspices the CVS program in our local area.
Our volunteers are often referred to as “volunteer angels” or “friends for older people” who enrich the lives of the residents they visit.

What Do Community Visitors Do?
As a community visitor you are required to commit to visit your resident friend weekly. Visits should be spent doing something you both enjoy – chat and reminisce, listen to music, playing cards or board games, reading together or watching a favourite TV show together.
Sharing your time and interests with the resident will help them feel better about themselves and enjoy their life more.
If you would like to know more about the Community Visitors Scheme or would like to become a visitor please contact the Centre.
Update Information
Due to Covid-19 visiting has changed in way that allows both resident and volunteers to remain contact with each other, through phone calls, letters and even dropping off care packages for their friend.
We are about start a new Virtual CVS program that allows volunteers and residents to see each other, instead of just a voice.
To become a visitor you will need to have a current police check, and have a flu vaccinations.
