Fridge Assist Scheme is similar to our No Interest Loan (NILS) Scheme as it too is based on the Good Shepherd Model. The loan enables applicants on low incomes to purchase a new energy efficient fridge.  A fridge is considered an essential household item which improves the quality of life or enhances social and economic participation for a person who would otherwise not be able to access via fair and equitable means. The concept is to give people the opportunity to purchase energy efficient fridges and remove old energy draining fridges out of the system which in turn will also save the individual money with their power bill.

The fridges are on display at the Centre and applicants can choose to apply for either a small, medium or large fridge to suit their needs and ability to repay the loan.

The criteria for Fridge Assist applicants include:

• Must live on the Central Coast
• Must have a pension or health care card
• Must have been in home for at least 6 months or have a minimum six month lease
• Must be willing to have old fridge removed from the premises

The process begins with registering your interest over the phone. Applicants can apply by calling the Centre on 4396 1555. Our friendly workers and/or volunteers are happy to clarify the application process at time of enquiry.

Some handy information to consider:

• Conditions do apply to loans.
• There is a waiting list for this program. Applicants will be advised at time of application.
• The process of the application from when the enquiry is actioned, to being assessed and if successfully approved and receiving your fridge can take time. Your Fridge Assist Worker can advise the expected turn around at time of interview.
• Payments are made fortnightly over a year through centrepay.

Our NILS and Fridge Assist programs are currently being utilised by 325 community members across the Central Coast.
